Albanian Institute for Social and Economic Development (AISED)
Instituti Shqiptar për Zhvillim Social dhe Ekonomik (AISED)
AISED works in Albania on social development and economic opportunity. Our activity is built around information, education, capacity development and the structured participation of communities in decisions that concern them.

Who we are
The Albanian Institute for Social and Economic Development is a non-governmental, non-profit organization registered in Albania and based in Tirana. We work on questions that sit between social conditions and economic opportunity, because in the daily life of a household the two are not separate.
Our work is carried out with residents, informal groups, local initiatives and other civil society actors. We do not replace public institutions; we help people take part in processes that concern them and we support the skills that widen their choices.
We describe our work as it is. Where we have not yet done something, this website says so.
Mission
To strengthen social development and economic opportunity in Albania by supporting education and skills, encouraging community participation and promoting inclusion and equal opportunity.
Vision
Communities in Albania with real opportunities for social participation, education and economic development, where inclusion is an ordinary feature of public life rather than an exception.
Values
Integrity, respect, inclusion, transparency, accountability, equal opportunity, community participation, human dignity, cooperation, sustainability and responsibility.
Read our valuesAreas of work
These are the thematic areas in which the organization concentrates its attention. They describe our focus rather than a claim that a specific programme currently runs in each one.
Social development
Access to information, services and participation in community life.
Economic development
Employability, small-scale economic activity and household stability.
Community development
Support for local groups that identify and address needs in their own area.
Education and capacity
Non-formal learning, information sessions and practical skills.
Inclusion and equal opportunity
Reducing barriers that keep particular groups out of local processes.
Sustainable development
Activity whose effects continue after the activity itself has ended.
Why this work matters
In many parts of Albania, information about opportunities, services and obligations does not reach the people who need it most. Where information is missing, participation weakens, and decisions are taken without the people they affect.
Economic difficulty and social exclusion reinforce each other. A household with a single, uncertain source of income has less room to invest in education; a person without recognized skills has fewer ways to change that situation.
Our contribution is deliberately modest in scale and specific in method: work with people who are willing to take part, in places where something already exists to build on.
Our organizational approach
- 1Listen firstWe begin by understanding what exists locally and what has already been tried.
- 2Plan with participantsObjectives are defined together with the people concerned, not for them.
- 3Build capacityThe aim is that a local group can continue the work without us.
- 4Document and reportWhat was decided and done is recorded, and reported to those entitled to know.
